A safe place to recover, heal, and grow.

Sharpen offers affordable, Christ-centered recovery housing — sober living homes across Greater Houston and Austin where you’ll find the community, structure, and support to make sobriety last.

What Is Recovery Housing?

Recovery housing is a substance-free home you share with others in recovery — a supportive sober living community with the structure, accountability, and encouragement that make early sobriety far more likely to last. It’s the bridge between treatment and life on your own.

At Sharpen, you’ll live alongside people who understand exactly what you’re going through, led by Peer Coordinators who are walking the road themselves.

Our Program

Each Sharpen home is shared by eight or nine participants and built around a simple idea: recovery happens best in community. Sharpen Recovery participants find the structure they need while having the freedom to pursue outside interests such as employment opportunities and time with loved ones.

Our program is built around the Sharpen Stages, our five-stage path from addiction to lasting sobriety and freedom.

Along the way, you’ll work the AA Twelve Steps and build the habits, life skills, steady work, and healthy relationships that keep sobriety strong. We’re a Christ-centered community where everyone is welcome, whatever their background or beliefs.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if this is for me?

If you’re ready for something different — ready to ask for help and put in the work — you’re not alone.

Our program is for people who are serious about recovery from substance use, open to living in community, and willing to commit to the process.

If that’s you, we’d love to connect.

How much does it cost, and do you accept insurance?

Program fees are $725 a month at all locations. We do not accept insurance.

Are you a treatment center?

No. We’re a non-medical, non-clinical recovery housing organization — a safe, supportive next step for people building a life in recovery. Our homes are regular single-family houses in neighborhoods across Greater Houston and Austin, offering structure, accountability, and community.

Do I have to be a Christian to join?

No. The Christian faith shapes our team, programming, and the culture in our homes, but we welcome individuals from all backgrounds and beliefs who meet our intake criteria. Each person’s journey is unique, and we walk alongside them with compassion, respect, and hope.

Who leads the homes?

Each home is led by a Peer Coordinator and an Assistant Peer Coordinator, both with lived experience in recovery, who work closely with a Staff Program Manager overseeing multiple homes.

Can I have my own room?

Our rooms are shared, with two, three, or four beds, because recovery happens best in community.

Do you provide transportation?

Transportation is largely your responsibility, though we can help with a bus pass at the start. We also provide rides to church on Sundays and to our Wednesday Night Sharpen events.

Do you provide meals?

We don’t provide meals during the entire duration of the program, but we'll ensure you're taken care of upon arrival and in the days following. We do provide meals at our Wednesday night Sharpen gatherings and other special events.

What can I bring with me?

Hygiene supplies, food, and clothes — no more than two large suitcases or bags of belongings. You’ll have designated areas for your things. Any medication needs will be discussed before you arrive.
